2010: Tigers, Hy-Wires and business - Oh My!

13th December 2009
Author: Matt Chatterley

In under three weeks, it will be the year twenty-ten (people favour rhythmic pronounciation so apparently two-thousand-and-X should lose popularity because twenty-ten rolls off the tongue better). The year of the Tiger in the Chinese calendar. General Motors have predicted the commercial unveiling of their "Hy-Wire" car, powered by hydrogen fuel cells (according to this 2003 CNN article).

Of course, I suspect that like us here at Mattched IT, you're more interested in what 2010 will hold for your business. As Christmas and it's excesses bear down on us at lightning speed and power stations groan from driving all those fairy lights, most of us are preparing for the inevitable yearly attempt to quit smoking or lose a bit of excess weight.

But what about our businesses? Can you list three things you will be working towards next year? We have more than three, however, here are some we'd like to share with you.

1. Launch our updated eCommerce Framework

It's been in the making for a long time. Although Mattched IT was originally born out of an idea for a SQL Server optimisation tool (SQHell), one of our first projects was actually an eCommerce website. We developed the code behind it into a re-useable ASP.NET shopping cart and for some time now we have been reworking things so to deliver a more flexible, powerful experience with some top class administrative tools.

2. Develop the next phase of handmade-crafts.co.uk

Our Crafts Directory project is something we've all greatly enjoyed working on. The harder parts of this year have forced it to take a back seat, but we've always had some grand plans for the project and we aim to make the time during the first half of next year to make at least some of them into a reality.

3. Build stronger relationships with our clients so we can all have a prosperous and profitable year!

It sounds cliched, a cop-out, a generic resolution for any business - but we really mean it. We want our clients to generate good return on investment (ROI) on work we do for them - if nothing else this is common sense - it means there are likely to be more projects for us in the future! As part of this we will be setting up a new area within our website where clients will be able to view and pay invoices online as well as managing other documentation which forms part of our development process.

So there you have it - three things we are going to achieve next year. Now it's your turn - no matter how big or small your aims and wishes for the year to come, we'd love you to share them with us!

New Year's Resolutions for business - good idea. Here's the top 3 for Write My Site:

1) Develop new social media management services

2) Sign up more blog management clients

3) Revamp website (this one's on the list every year - it's amazing how quickly websites start to look dated).

Hopefully 2010 will be the year that my husband and I will be moving to France (should have happened by now but my is the selling process slow!) Once there I want to develop the French translation services that I offer.
I also wish to focus on promoting my writing services, in particular writing articles for people. I have found this year that I have immensely enjoyed writing blogs, and you should always pursue things you like doing.
Merry Christmas everyone and I wish you every success in 2010.

1. Improve my product photographs - I want 2010 to be the year that I really crack this!

2. Become more organised - my work/life balance at the moment is skewed towards work and I would like it to be the other way around!

3. Keep selling and aim to get more press for my products :)

Have a good 2010 everyone!

Here goes

1 Redesign my website - building on what works and making it more intuitive and user friendly ..working on this already!

2 Create social networking for business workshops that really add value to participants and bring more of my - ie grey hair - generation into the way we do things now!

3 Continue to build great relationships both online and in person - the only way to develop my ( or anybody's) business
